Solar Power Energy – Ways It Can Benefit You & Cut Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Solar means sun. Solar Power Energy is FREE energy from the sun.

This energy is responsible for climate and weather and supports virtually all life on Earth.

Heat and light from the sun, along with solar based resources such as wind and wave power, hydroelectricity and biomass, account for over 99.9 percent of the available flow of renewable energy.

Solar Power energy refers to Photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating Solar Thermal technologies that convert sunlight into electricity.

In the case of Solar PV, the process is direct, via silicon-based cells. In the case of solar concentrating thermal, the process involves heating a transfer fluid to produce steam to run a generator.

Whilst PV has advantages in terms of simplicity, the high temperatures produced by Solar Thermal systems also can provide process heat and steam for a variety of secondary commercial applications.

The utilization of Solar Energy ranges from traditional and basic technologies (related to food, heat and light) to modern utility scale power generation systems.

Solar Power energy is used in a wide variety of applications including:-

7  Big Solar Energy Applications.  How Will They Change Your Future Life?

1..        Heat (hot water, building heat, cooking, process heat)

2..        Lighting (day light, hybrid lighting, daylight saving times)

3..        Electricity generation (photovoltaics, heat engines)

4..        Transportation (solar car, solar plane, solar boat)

5..        Desalination

6..        Biomass (wood, biofuel)

7..        Clothes drying

Solar Electricity Prices Are Falling

Efficiencies of Solar Power Cells have recently improved from 6% to 15% with experimental cells reaching efficiencies of over 40%.

Along with these increases in efficiency, prices for PV modules have fallen from $300 per watt to less than $3 per watt in some applications making them increasingly competitive with other energy sources.

Solar Power Energy uses a variety of methods to collect sunlight and convert this energy into electricity. Concentrating Solar Thermal Power Plants have traditionally been the most common type of Solar Power energu. However, multi megawatt photovoltaic sites have seen recent rapid deployment. Experimental Solar Power Plants have also been built using technologies other than concentrating solar or photovoltaics.

Photovoltaic (PV) modules have multiple PV cells. Two or more interconnected PV modules create an array. Photovoltaic cell used Solar Power Energy is a device that converts light into electricity using the photovoltaic effect. These prototype cells were made of selenium and achieved efficiencies of around 1%.

In 2003, worldwide production of Solar Power Energy increased by 32%. Between 200 and 2004, the increase in worldwide Solar Power Energy capacity was an annualized 60% according to statistical analysts.
